Our Foundation and Purpose
MEDS is dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare by ensuring the consistent availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, and health supplies.
Founded in 1986, MEDS was established in response to critical gaps in the availability and affordability of essential medicines, particularly within mission and rural health facilities. From inception, the organization has remained focused on delivering value through quality assurance, supply chain efficiency, and service excellence.
Governance and Leadership
MEDS operates as a non-profit Trust, guided by a Board of Directors representing its founding institutions. The Board provides strategic oversight, while an experienced executive management team, led by the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for operational leadership.

MEDS Journey – Key Milestones
1986
MEDS is established as a not-for-profit Trust by KCCB and CHAK to address critical shortages of essential medicines in mission health facilities.
1990s
Expansion of pharmaceutical supply services across Kenya, strengthening distribution networks and partnerships with faith-based health providers.
Early 2000s
Introduction of structured procurement systems and growth in client base beyond mission facilities to include broader healthcare institutions.
2008
Establishment and strengthening of quality assurance systems, including laboratory services to ensure product safety and compliance with international standards.
2010 – 2015
